We saw an ad in the local hotel with a suggestion for this. We came on a Friday night and waited about 15 minutes to be seated. The food was Amazing. We started with nachos then I had the chicken carbonara. The sauce was full of flavor and was rich and thick. Our server Jasmine was friendly and delivered an excellent visit. If you are in the area I would recommend Skip's on your list of to visit restaurants.

I loved it. The food was actually very good and the host at the door (Dominic) and bartender (Eddie) were super helpful, friendly and attentive from the moment I walked in the door until I left. I’ll definitely be going back...a lot. Kudos to the management.

It's nice to walk in and be greeted and welcomed immediately! My favorite lunch item is the delicious Pecan Crusted Chicken Salad - great, fresh ingredients! I go often over my lunch hour and, although it is always busy, they get us out on time! I've never been there for dinner, but the lunch lighting is low, so I'm sure the ambiance is great for a date night! It appears to be an old house, but they have made very efficient use of space!

Amazing food, great hosts and a menu for all

Salmon perfect, large portion. Generous side of fresh vegetables was a great surprise, good salad dressing. My brother had ribs and say the were great. He liked the selection of beers. Good service.

Haven't been to Skips in so long, so we decided to stop by today for lunch. It was packed, but we got seated right away. I have never been here during the day and it is still rather dim in there, at night it is rather dark. We ordered the Steak sandwich and Chicken jalapeno pasta. The steak was cooked exactly how I like it and I also ordered the side salad with their house made balsamic vinaigrette. Their balsamic vinaigrette is what started me on vinaigrettes and a good one is hard to find.The chicken jalapeno pasta was good, but the taste reminded me of vegetable cream cheese spread. It might just be me. We went during lunch, and they were busy, but it seemed like everything took a really long time. We were there for an hour and a half and ended up having them pack our dessert to go, as it was more than 10 minutes and we still hadn't received it.

This is a great spot, if you’re in the area i do recommend you stopping here and grabbing a meal. The service is really good and staff are always friendly. Food is good too. They have good options. Would definitely swing around for a meal again

If you are looking for atmosphere.. you can find it here. Cozy place and the service was excellent. Good menu and grabbed a steak. There are cheaper options, but again of you are looking for ambiance this is your huckleberry. Will be back.

Skip's is a good after work place to meet your gang for drinks, and if you stay for dinner, you won't be sorry. Skip's has one of the better menus around. The food is good, and it's reasonably priced.

Back for the second night in a town full of restaurants. The walleye was perfect yesterday. Having the calamari and chicken marsala tonight. Looking forward to the au gratin potatoes. Calamari is served as steaks not rings. Tender and flavorful. Sorry the plate was half gone as of the photo.

So good!!! From service to food, awesome choice for eats. Intimate setting without being cramped. House dressing divine. Able to converse with dining companions because the music is tastefully light in the background.

I celebrated my PhD last night in this excellent restaurant. Well we had a superb evening and the restaurant was unquestionably one of the reasons for this outstanding gathering. The crew contributed in a gorgeous manner, the cooking was great and my guests were so pleased. We shall absolutely visit again for more events. Thank you very much.

At the first moment you step in that restaurant the waiters give you a good feeling. Very friendly hosts, it is a good place to enjoy with buddies or with your date. delightful food, skillful chief cook and stuff, comfortable pay and courteous service. Warmly recommended.

Grown-up romantic. Family classy. First-date dark. Garlic mashed potatoes. Rarebit burger. Cobb salad. Gin and tonic. This is your parents' sophisticated and classy.

The best steak I've had in my entire life and trust me, I've eaten ALOT of steak! Cooked to a perfect medium rare for me and well done ( yes I know that's a crime ) for my husband. Amazing atmosphere, fabulous service from Jasmine and DELICIOUS food. Rather pricey but honestly worth it. Highly reccomend!

This is my favorite place in the Des Moines area to go for steak! It's always perfect! The service has always been great and the place is clean. The atmosphere is very homey and romantic as well, perfect for date nights!

I went to pick up a friend from the airport and we usually stop for a bite. We have stopped on a few occasions and the food is always okay. Nothing special but nothing bad. Definitely can tell it is an open a can and grab out of the freezer kind of place ( for lunch anyway ). The outside is homey and the inside is dark. I probably wouldn't make a special trip to go eat here, but would possibly stop if you are in the area.

Great service, wonderful and a nice atmosphere. Went for dinner, had a ribeye steak with sautéed mushrooms and onions. Also had wonderful garlic mashed potatoes. It was one of the most amazing ribeye steaks I’ve had that just melts in your mouth and with wonderful flavor. Highly recommend it!!!!

Whenever we are on the South side, Skip's is our favorite place to eat. Excellent food, great service, very nice atmosphere and nice people. Every thing on the menu is very good, but my favorite is the pecan encrusted chicken salad! Appetizers! Salads!Entree's! ALL EXCELLENT!! We highly recommend Family owned SKIP'S on Fleur Dr.

Wow! My first time! Great food, parmesan dressing, yeah....amazing! Service was great. Nice atmosphere, like Cheers, wait staff knew most everyone. Very very nice evening.

Food was a let down but service was great. Our waitress was on top of everything and our drinks rarely got more then half empty. I had the pecan crusted chicken salad. The salad and dressing were good but the pecan chicken strips we just blah. Very little pecan flavor. Spinach artichoke dip was also blah. Friend got a turkey club. Ended up eating it with a fork as the bread could not hold the sandwich. The fries were good. Atmosphere is reminiscent of an old steakhouse. Probably a place to go have drinks.

Food fabulous. Lunched here and was pleasantly surprised. Food was hot and tasted excellent. Salad crisp and just the right amount of dressing. Highly recommend.

Skips is a hidden gem.. looks like a small house, but the inside is a great eating establishment with great food and a full bar!!

On first appearance... I was gonna turn around. On the outside it looks like a funeral home that has just been restored. On the inside the lights were very low. The bar was packed. The tables were close but there was enough room for your party. 🤔 We stayed. The New York strip was medium well, juicy, and lightly seasoned, I truly enjoyed it. The bread was warm, salad fresh, and appetizers - sufficient in quality and quantity. Everyone enjoyed their food. The ribs were excellent. It's moderately pricey; Around $23-30 per plate. Definitely and unexpected surprise. The service was pleasant and accommodating. We could eat here about two to three times a week!!! The food and time shared were extraordinarily memorable.

Good food, great service. Dark wood, close seating, and a very "local" feeling. Very close to the airport, but no feeling of being a "tourist trap." Relatively simple menu, well-executed: steaks, chops, fish, straightforward appetizers, salads, and desserts. Definitely recommended.

Great place for eats and drinks, its so good that they are pretty crowded and its a small venue. It was about a 45 min wait which was very good considering. Great menu, high quality options reasonably priced.

Our visit here was excellent! The food was delicious(the onion rings are fantastic and pecan crusted chicken superb). Our waitress was beyond compare- when she found we were going to a movie after dinner and we had leftovers we were afraid wouldn't fair well being left in our car due to the heat, she told us she would put them in containers in their fridge and we could pick them up on our way back home! Outstanding!

Great local spot close to the airport. Sat at the bar for lunch, service was excellent. I let Molley know that I had a flight coming up and she made sure my food came out promptly. Had the Cobb salad, great looking salad with good flavor. Chicken was a tad dry but the dressing helped with that. Enjoyed a nice local beer as well. Nice atmosphere, hope to visit again for dinner.

Simple, yet good. The service is excellent with friendly wait staff, and prices are moderate. Nice selection of food. A good solid choice when a chain joint isn't in your desires.

On Saturday I had Ahi Tuna, best portion, prepared properly. As good as I had in Cape Town SA!

Nice! Quiet place, excellent food so far each visit. Great wait staff and I am very picky on that! I really like the room with the fireplace. It would be a great place to curl up and read a book.

This was delightful for lunch and the dinner menu looked equally as good. The sandwiches are very good and quite large. It's the usual fare Burgers, Italian Beef etc. It was our first time there and were seated in a step down area which was quite nice and the service was excellent. The regulars sat in the bar or back dining area, which seemed to be business lunches or friends. You cant go wrong no matter where you sit or what you eat.

From the first moment you enter that restaurant the personel give you a comfortable feeling. Very friendly hosts, it is a kind restaurant to go out with your friends or with your date. yummy cuisine, qualified chef, good cost and courteous service. Highly recommended.

The crusted peacan chicken tenders are soooo good. The onion rings are great as well. I have never been unhappy with what I have and the service is usually pretty good

Friendly and fast service. Lighting was a bit dark, but the food was good. Not amazing, but good. The service was phenomenal though and made the experience great!

This was a wonderful old-fashioned steak house. This was the kind that had the creamy garlic mashed potatoes, the red, backlit bar, and the dim light. These places are always the best. I had a steak sandwich with grilled onions. I took it rare, and I thought it was quite good. The dessert left me satisfied as well. If I am ever back in town, I will make a trip.

Skips is a classic, in Des Moines. The food, service and ambience all make for a pleasant dining experience.

Awesome food and an equally awesome staff. Great place. Would definitely recommend...
